Refund and Returns Policy
Our Commitment
Buying a used outboard motor is a significant purchase and we don’t take that lightly. We inspect every motor before it’s listed, describe it honestly, and back it with real buyer protection. If something isn’t right, we want to know about it and we’ll work with you to fix it.
45-Day Return Policy
You have 45 days from the date of delivery to return a motor if you’re not satisfied. To be eligible for a return the motor must be in the same condition it was in when it left us — unused, unmodified, and not fitted to a vessel. If a motor has been mounted and run, it is no longer eligible for a change-of-mind return. Returns must be initiated by contacting us directly within the 45-day window. Once we confirm the return, we’ll provide instructions for getting the motor back to us. The cost of return freight is the responsibility of the buyer unless the return is due to our error or a fault covered under warranty.
90-Day Warranty
Every motor we sell comes with a 90-day warranty from the date of delivery. This warranty covers mechanical faults that were present at the time of sale and were not disclosed in the listing. If your motor develops a fault within the warranty period, contact us straight away with a description of the issue and photos or video where possible. We’ll assess the fault and work out the best resolution — whether that’s a repair, a replacement part, a partial refund, or a full refund depending on the circumstances. The warranty does not cover damage caused by improper installation, misuse, running the motor without adequate water supply, using incorrect fuel or oil, or damage caused by salt water neglect after the motor has been in your possession. It also does not cover normal wear items such as impellers, anodes, spark plugs, or belts, or any modifications made after purchase.
Change of Mind Returns
We accept change of mind returns within the 45-day window provided the motor has not been used. We know that’s a fair policy for second-hand goods and we stand by it. Return freight costs for change of mind returns are covered by the buyer.
Motor Not as Described
If a motor arrives and it is materially different from how it was described in the listing, contact us within 7 days of delivery. We take these situations seriously because our reputation depends on accurate descriptions. In cases where a motor is genuinely not as described we will cover return freight costs and provide a full refund once the motor is received back and assessed.
Damaged in Transit
If your motor arrives damaged, photograph the packaging and the motor before doing anything else and contact us within 48 hours of delivery. Do not attempt to start or fit a motor you believe has been damaged in transit. We’ll liaise with the freight carrier and work through the process with you as quickly as possible.
Refund Processing
Once a return has been received and assessed, refunds are processed within 5 to 7 business days back to your original payment method. We’ll confirm by email when the refund has been initiated. Processing times after that depend on your bank or payment provider.
How to Start a Return
Contact us through our website at outboardenginehub.au/contact-us/ with your order number, a description of the reason for the return, and any supporting photos. We’ll respond within one business day and walk you through the next steps. Please do not send a motor back without contacting us first as unannounced returns cannot be processed.
Australian Consumer Law
Nothing in this policy limits or excludes your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. If a product has a major fault you are entitled to a replacement or refund. If it has a minor fault we are entitled to repair it first. These rights exist regardless of any warranty or returns policy we offer and we will always honour them.
Questions
If you’re unsure whether your situation is covered or you just want to talk through an issue before formally lodging a return, call or message us. We’re based in Darwin, we know our stock, and we’d rather have a straight conversation than have you feel like you’re stuck with something that isn’t right.
