Warranty
Our Warranty
Every used outboard motor sold by Outboard Engine Hub comes with a 90-day warranty from the date of delivery. We offer this because we inspect what we sell and we’re confident in our assessments. It’s also just the right thing to do when someone is spending serious money on second-hand marine gear.
What the Warranty Covers
The warranty covers mechanical faults that were present in the motor at the time of sale and were not disclosed in the product listing. This includes internal engine faults, fuel system issues, electrical faults, and gearbox problems that exist prior to the motor leaving our possession. If a fault emerges within 90 days and it can reasonably be determined that it was a pre-existing condition, we will work with you to resolve it at no cost to you.
What the Warranty Does Not Cover
The warranty does not cover damage or faults resulting from improper installation or incorrect mounting on the vessel. It does not cover damage caused by running the motor without adequate water supply or cooling. It does not cover the use of incorrect fuel, oil type, or oil mixture ratios. It does not cover physical damage, impact damage, or damage caused by dropping or mishandling the motor after delivery. It does not cover corrosion, salt water damage, or deterioration that occurs after the motor is in your possession. It does not cover normal wear and service items including impellers, water pump kits, anodes, spark plugs, fuel filters, belts, or throttle and shift cables. It does not cover any faults that arise after modifications, repairs, or alterations have been made to the motor by anyone other than us. It does not cover motors that have been raced, used in commercial operations beyond normal recreational use, or operated outside their rated specifications.
How to Make a Warranty Claim
If you believe your motor has developed a fault covered under warranty, contact us as soon as possible. Do not continue running a motor you suspect has a mechanical fault as doing so may worsen the damage and affect your claim. When you contact us please include your order number, a clear description of the fault and when it first appeared, photos or video of the issue where possible, and confirmation of how the motor has been used and stored since delivery. We’ll assess the information and respond within two business days with our recommended course of action.
How We Resolve Warranty Claims
Depending on the nature of the fault we will offer one of the following resolutions. Where the fault is minor and repairable we may arrange for the motor to be assessed and repaired by a qualified marine mechanic, with costs covered by us up to a reasonable amount. Where a repair is not practical we may offer a replacement motor of equivalent specification and value. Where neither repair nor replacement is suitable we will offer a partial or full refund depending on the severity of the fault and the circumstances. We will always discuss the options with you before deciding on a resolution and we will not leave you without a path forward.
Warranty Freight Costs
If a motor needs to be returned to us for warranty assessment, we will cover the cost of return freight for genuine warranty claims. We ask that you contact us before sending anything back so we can arrange the most appropriate and cost-effective freight method. Motors sent back without prior authorisation cannot be processed and freight costs in those cases will not be reimbursed.
Warranty Period
The 90-day warranty period begins on the date the motor is delivered to your address as confirmed by freight tracking or delivery records. Claims must be initiated within this 90-day window. Faults reported after the warranty period has expired will be assessed on a goodwill basis at our discretion, but we are under no obligation to provide warranty resolution for out-of-period claims.
Used Motor Disclaimer
These are used motors and we represent them honestly as such. Second-hand outboard motors may show signs of age, cosmetic wear, minor surface corrosion, or small imperfections that do not affect mechanical function. These characteristics are normal for used marine equipment and are not grounds for a warranty claim unless they were not disclosed and materially affect the operation of the motor. We describe our motors accurately and photograph them thoroughly so you know what you’re getting before you buy.
Australian Consumer Law
This warranty is offered in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, not instead of them. Under Australian Consumer Law you are entitled to a remedy if a product fails to meet a consumer guarantee — including if it is not of acceptable quality, not fit for purpose, or not matching its description. These rights cannot be excluded or limited regardless of what any warranty policy states and we will honour them in full.
Questions About Your Warranty
If you’re unsure whether a fault is covered or you just want to talk through what you’re seeing with the motor, get in touch before you do anything else. We’d rather have a conversation early than deal with a complicated situation later. We’re based in Darwin and we know our stock — if something isn’t right we want to know about it.
